On April 25, Brilla Schools officially opened the Brilla Horizon Family Resource Center, a milestone rooted in the vision of Yeime Valle, Executive Director, and brought to life through the work of Sandra Tamayo, Director of Family & Community Engagement.
Sandra has played a key role in shaping Horizon from concept to reality, guiding the planning, coordination, and community engagement efforts behind the Center. From the beginning, she focused on building strong relationships with families and community-based organizations to ensure the Center reflected the real needs and priorities of the community.
Her work has been guided by one consistent principle: listening first. Through conversations with families and partners, Sandra helped shape a welcoming, responsive space grounded in lived experience and collaboration.

Located at 378 E. 151st Street, Bronx, NY 10455, Brilla Horizon offers job readiness and career training, parenting and early childhood support, literacy coaching, advocacy services, and referrals to trusted community partners, all at no cost to families.
A comprehensive needs assessment identified key priorities including school enrollment navigation, SNAP access, healthcare support, food insecurity, and mental health services. Those insights informed the Center’s first workshops focused on nutrition and wellness, with plans to expand into English classes for parents, GED programming, and additional enrichment opportunities.

Sandra captures the spirit of the work simply: “Every new workshop is a new adventure. I’m excited to see families’ faces light up when something resonates with them.”
As programming continues to grow, Sandra remains focused on ensuring the Center evolves alongside the needs of the families it serves. Through strong community partnerships, clear communication, and relationship-building, the Brilla Horizon Family Resource Center stands as a shared commitment to strengthening families and expanding opportunity across the community.
